If you’ve paid for a latte with a prepaid card on your phone or even given your phone to a supermarket cashier to scan your loyalty card, you've used a digital wallet. But are you using it safely?
Each card you store in a digital wallet contains personal information that you need to protect. While Visa secures your transactions, there are measures you should be taking in order to keep that information as safe as it can be.
Remembering the essentials of account protection is simple with Visa’s easy-to-remember acronym “LOK”:
- Lock it down: Secure your device with a password, download only trusted apps, use only known networks and security software and keep your device updated.
- Only you can access sensitive information: Use a unique password for the digital wallet that is different from your phone password, don't disclose personal financial information, such as your PIN, on the phone and keep your passwords in a safe place.
- Know who to call: Know how to resolve problems, such as reporting a stolen or lost phone, before they happen. Make sure you’re familiar with your financial institution's terms and conditions.
You may be doing some of what you need to “LOK” down your digital wallet, but following all the “LOK” recommendations will make your info that much safer.
