Nearly three in four credit cardholders in the U.S. believe paying for things with installments is helpful for budgeting and seventy percent say the arrangement helps alleviate the stress of large purchases[1].

That’s why Visa is introducing a suite of installment solutions APIs that enable participating financial institutions and merchants to provide their customers with installment purchase options, for both in-store and online purchases. The idea? Give shoppers a more flexible way to pay using the Visa cards already in their wallets, with the option to divide their total purchase amount into smaller, equal payments over a defined time[2]. Visa’s installment solutions are in development as one of the first payment innovations available through Visa Next, a new destination for accessing solutions in Visa’s product pipeline. The product is available to issuers and merchants, enabling issuers to provide the installment option to eligible cardholders at participating merchants.
