Dr. Shashank Agrawal joined Visa Research as a Staff Research Scientist in October 2016, and recently promoted to Sr. Staff Research Scientist in July 2019. Shashank received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2015, and received his M.S. and B.Tech. in Computer Science and Engineering in 2011 and 2009, respectively. His Ph.D. thesis introduced a new framework for the study of modern cryptographic primitives that enable computation on encrypted data.
Prior to joining Visa, Shashank was a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Texas at Austin, and a research assistant at Microsoft. As a member of the Security team, his research interests are in cryptography, privacy and blockchain. Dr. Agrawal is the recipient of numerous awards, including the Feng Chen Memorial Award (awarded for best paper), C.L. & Jane W.-S. Liu Award (awarded for exceptional research promise in graduate studies), and more. He is the co-inventor of eight patents, and has published 28 papers in several international conferences and journals, including Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) Special Interest Group on Security, Audit and Control (SIGSAC), Crypto, Eurocrypt and others.
