Inspiring new beginnings

Visa is proud to support the creative spirit and boundless energy of our Ideas Happen winners. We believe that building a better community starts by helping people build their dreams. Our twelve outstanding innovators each received $25,000 from Visa to help them launch their ideas. We can hardly wait to see what they’ll do next.

Self-Expression

Janette L., IN
Project Inspire/Self-Expression

My Vietnamese parents raised me Buddhist, but living in Indiana, it has always been difficult for me to discuss Buddhism with my friends and how it is similar to their faiths (Christianity, Islam, Hinduism and Judaism.) To help provide understanding and to show connections between all religions, I want to create a traveling immersive experience called Project Inspire that would take you on a unique spiritual journey by enveloping you in images, light and sound.

This high-tech experience would not only give a brief history of every faith, but it would also immerse you into several different spiritual environments. For example, the room first goes dark. You hear Buddhist monks chanting behind you. A glorious sun rises in front of you. You smell burning incense and are suddenly transported into a Buddhist temple.

Having produced two immersive art events recently, I know firsthand how powerful such an experience can be. I once read somewhere, "Inspiring environments create an atmosphere that fosters new understanding through experience." My hope is not only to educate people about the religions of our world, but also to strengthen unity among all cultures.
