What is one-time bill payment?
It’s the opportunity to control when and how much you pay by initiating bill payments when you’re ready. Visit the biller’s website to review your bill before authorizing a Visa transaction.
What is automatic bill payment?
Simply contact your billers once to set up automatic bill payments. Each month, payments will be automatically charged to your card, and you’ll never have to worry about due dates or missed payments again.
What are the benefits?
Paying bills with your Visa card takes the hassle out of bill paying and it posts instantly. It saves you time and eliminates the need to write checks, buy stamps, or worry about delays in the mail. Plus, if you have a rewards program linked to your card, you can earn rewards for bills you already pay.
Is it secure?
With the Visa Zero Liability Policy*, you are not liable for fraudulent transactions or unauthorized use of your Visa card both online and offline.
Is there a fee?
Visa does not charge a fee for the convenience of bill payment, and many billers offer this option for free as well. Contact your billers directly to determine if they charge a fee.
Which billers accept Visa for bill payment?
Many national and local billers and service providers accept Visa for bill payment, including:
- Phone companies
- Cable/satellite TV providers
- Insurance companies
- Utility companies
- Security companies
- And more
Which Visa cards can I use to pay my bills?
You may choose from any of your Visa check, credit, or prepaid cards. You may select one Visa card to pay some bills and another to pay a different set of bills.
What information might a biller request?
Each biller is different but they generally ask for the following information:
- Biller account number
- Visa card number
- Expiration date
- Date you want to be charged
- Amount you authorize to be charged (for one-time bill payment)
Does the biller need to store my Visa card information?
Some billers may allow you to use one-time bill pay without storing your card information. Contact your biller directly for further information.
When will my bills get paid?
With both automatic and one-time bill payments, you will be able to select the best date to schedule your payment each month, to ensure that your payments arrive before the due date. If you sign up for automatic bill payment, you should continue to pay your bills directly until your biller informs you that your automatic payment has been established.
After Establishing Bill Pay
What if my bill amount changes?
If you’ve established one-time bill pay, you will see the new bill amount before you pay. If you sign up for automatic bill pay, your card may be immediately billed for the amount due or other options may exist. Refer to your biller’s sign-up process or contact them directly.
What if my Visa card payment is late?
Your automatic bill payments should occur as scheduled, even if your Visa card payment is late. Please refer to your official cardholder agreement or contact your issuing financial institution to verify how new charges are handled on late or delinquent accounts.
How do I stop or discontinue automatic bill payment?
Contact billers directly to cancel or discontinue any scheduled Automatic Bill Payment. Some billers require advance notice to discontinue automatic payments, so allow additional time for any changes to your payment service. You may also contact your Visa card issuer to ensure that automatic payments to your biller are stopped in the future.
What if there is a payment discrepancy or I have other payment questions?
Please contact the biller directly to settle payment discrepancies or for other payment questions.
What if my Visa card is updated, lost or stolen?
Immediately report a lost or stolen Visa card to the bank that issued your card. To avoid service interruption on automatic bill payment, provide billers with your new Visa card information. Remember, with the Visa Zero Liability Policy*, you are not liable for fraudulent transactions or unauthorized use of your Visa card both online and offline.
Will I still receive a paper bill by mail?
Yes, most billers will continue to send you a duplicate of your bill by mail. You do not need to pay the bill twice. If you wish to stop receiving paper bills, contact the billers directly.
*Visa’s Zero Liability policy covers U.S.-issued cards only. Visa's Zero Liability policy does not apply to ATM transactions, or to PIN transactions not processed by Visa, or certain commercial card transactions.
