Make purchases greater than your balance
If your purchase amount is greater than the balance on your card, some merchants may allow you to use a second form of payment—cash, check, or credit card—to cover the difference. Simply tell the cashier in advance how much to deduct from your Visa Prepaid card and how much you will pay with the second payment method. Learn more.
When you return an item, you’ll need the Visa Prepaid card you used to make the purchase. If the merchant’s return policy allows it, the merchant will credit the amount back to your card. It usually takes three to seven business days for the credit to take effect. Learn more.
To get cash at the ATM, insert your card into the machine and enter your PIN. Select “checking” to make a withdrawal and enter the amount of cash you want. To get cash back when making a purchase, swipe your card and choose the “debit” button, then select the cash-back amount you want from the screen options, and enter your PIN. Learn more.
Check your balance
It helps to know your card balance before you shop. Get your current balance on your card provider’s web site or over the phone. Some providers also allow you to check your balance at ATMs or other locations. Be sure to ask if that’s an option for you.
Report a lost or stolen card
Report lost or stolen cards immediately by contacting your card provider. It’s a good idea to keep their phone number handy someplace other than where you keep your card.
